Mind, Body, and Soul; A Guide to Living with Cancer- By Nancy Hassett
Dahm. Dahm is a registered nurse who has cared for over
400 cancer patients. The information provided here is invaluable-and
very, very honest. On doctors prescribing for the relief of pain: "The
time has long since passed for polite requests and respectful submissions.
What the hell are you doctors doing out there?" Breast cancer breakthroughs,
gene therapies, and other promising methods of treatment. Dahm is very
truthful-she's seen the pain, she's heard the suffering, she's not an
uncaring professional. Alternative medicine and cancer, heaven and faith:
"For the many facing death in the near future, your prayers will
also be answered in the form of courage, faith and strength. Heaven
is waiting." From initial symptoms to final death, from early tears
to later wisdom. Home care, dying with dignity in your own house. "To
me, dying with dignity means sparing me the humiliation of crying out
in pain, writhing in bed, and having to beg for help from those who
can't or won't help. It means sparing me from the routine of loud hospital
noises, indifference, closed doors, and unwelcome remarks from strangers."
Mind, Body, and Soul is an important work, a book that not only advances
our knowledge of cancer but brings the technical expertise of one professional
woman's hope-simple hope-to those who are-simply-dying.
God bless.
